Surprising Spain

July 6 2021 | #laveltravel

Untitled project 4

The holidays have started for good, the coronavirus pandemic has finally passed (hopefully for good!), And Poles are thinking about holiday destinations.

One of the countries that is very popular with tourists is Spain. No wonder - it is rich both with vast beaches on the Costa del Sol and Costa Brava (over 8000 kilometers in total!), And beautiful cities full of architectural gems: Barcelona, Seville, Valencia, Malaga and the capital city of Madrid.

Spain is a country full of colors, rich in many species of fauna and flora (most in Europe). It is also the only European country where bananas are grown.

We have a dozen interesting facts about Spain for you - some of them are really surprising:

- The name Spain comes from the word Ispania, which means: land of rabbits.

- Nudity is fully legal. There are many nudist beaches (but not all of them have this status - it's worth taking with you swimsuit)

- The country is 1,6 times larger than Poland

- The highest peak is Pico de Teide (located in the Canary Islands belonging to Spain), it is 3718 m above sea level

- The Spanish anthem has no words.

- The full name of the world-famous Spanish painter Pablo Picasso was: Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísim Trinidad Ruizy Picasso.

- The Spaniards brought to Europe from distant overseas expeditions, incl. potatoes, tobacco, tomatoes, cocoa, corn.

- Left-hand traffic was in force in Spain until 1924.

- La Tomatina has been organized in Bunol since 1945, during which participants throw tons of tomatoes at each other.

- Spaniards have the largest number of bars from all European Union countries (1 bar per 129 people).

If you visit Spain and learn something new - be sure to let me know, in the meantime
"Ten un buen viaje" or "successful journey".

PS. The last curiosity - maybe it's worth learning Spanish? It is the second most common mother tongue in the world (spoken by 328 million people in 44 countries).
